CONTEMPORARY RUGS

We carry a variety of contemporary designs. Probably the largest representation in this category would be the Tibetan rugs. There are many westerners who are giving their designs to the Tibetan weavers. These rugs are being made with vegetable-dyed wool as well as the synthetic dyes.

We also carry the Zamin, a unique type of natural-dyed rug made in India by Cultural Survival that is made in traditional Persian designs as well as some wonderful abstract designs that are earthy in feel because of the texture of the tightly-spun wool and the rich autumnal colors.

Many people consider the Persian Gabbehs to be contemporary in feel, though they've been made by nomadic people in Iran for generations. We have wonderful examples of these one-of-a-kind, interesting rugs, ranging from very primitive, coarsely knotted, to finely knotted, with a sleeker look.

In addition to the handknotted contemporary rugs, we also carry a carefully-chosen group of tufted rugs done in contemporary designs. While these are made of wool, they are much quicker to make and in general are far less expensive than the hand-knotted rugs

Please call or email us to discuss the wide range of contemporary designs, sizes and prices.
