Nomad Rug (AR83640), 12 x 14-7
About This Rug
Rugs have been on a constant journey through many centuries. (See, "A Short History of Rugs”) This beautiful Bokhara design was originally derived from the Turkmens of Central Asia, used for domestic purposes by the tribe members; then morphed into the rugs that were destined for Europe through the trading center of “Bokhara”; then to the 20th century and the slicker, often washed for luster, inexpensive versions made in quantity for a world market. Many people, when they think “oriental rug,” will think of these Bokhara gul patterns (the stylized floral or geometric shapes throughout the rug). This beautiful rug harks back to the original tribal Turkmen rugs made with handspun wool and natural dyes: poetry for the eye, decorative yet calm in its repetition and harmony of colors. Available in a variety of sizes as well as by custom order.
